Project Overview

On The Run

On The Run began with an existing residential building on Murphy Oshawa Chevron Alternative, Lagos — not a blank site. The brief was transformation: reshape an existing structure, from facade inward, into a fine dining destination. The exterior response was immediate — a perforated metal cladding system wraps the upper floor, its backlit apertures creating a luminous facade that signals the building's new identity from the street.

Inside, the two floors were treated as distinct but connected experiences. The ground floor is raw and atmospheric — exposed stone, rough concrete, and an organic fractured ceiling installation that functions as both light source and sculpture. The upper floor shifts register — warmer and more refined, with exposed white brick, pendant lighting, herringbone timber flooring, and a lounge bar defined by LED-lined shelving. A breakout alcove with concentric arched walls and sunken platform seating delivers the most intimate space in the building.

Design Approach

The perforated facade resolves the building's residential origin decisively, giving On The Run a street presence that functions as both branding and architecture. Internally, differentiating the two floors by material register — raw below, refined above — creates a progression that rewards movement and encourages exploration.

The organic ceiling installation defines zones, diffuses light, and anchors the ground floor without additional decoration. Lighting is treated as a primary design material throughout — from the backlit facade to the bar shelving and breakout alcove — ensuring the space performs equally well day and night.
